Trivial Substance

So I was browsing through some old pictures on the family desktop and I came across a picture I have been searching for on and off for the last year. Before you see the picture, you should know a tiny bit of the story behind it.

A few years ago, I was chatting away in #purezc with no one at home at the time. This was obviously during the time when I was a very active participate in chat rather than the pseudo AK47 I seem to be in this day and age. Anyways, I decided I was hungry. The natural reaction to such a decision is to fix something edible. Pizza rolls are obviously something edible, not to mention delicious and generally easy to prepare. One must know that despite how easy it is to fix pizza rolls in a microwave, they are infinitely better when baked in an oven. So… I opted for the bake method. Mistake #1.

After months of just letting this thing sit around, I finally decide to post on it again. Of all the topics I could choose to write about, I have to choose the strangest one that I have been entangled within for the last year or so: fan fiction.

I really cannot deny at this point that I read fan fiction (anime, cartoons, and video games) for enjoyment. Sometimes I read it because the fic is actually really, really, good (shockingly, they do exist). Other times, I read it because I want to laugh at how horrible it is. There are also times where I will read through sub par (nothing as low quality as the previous link) fics because the plotline is rarely exercised with decent grammar, proper progression, and descriptive paragraphs. And then I read it because I’m insanely bored. Despite all of this, there is one type of fan fiction I will never read if I can help it: Harry Potter crossovers.

I’ve upgraded WordPress once again. As the zero people that read this might also notice, I’m toying with a new theme. I’m aware the text is difficult to read at the moment… but it’s a work in progress. *shrug*

Chances are, I may end up scrapping this theme… as I’ve already noticed a few issues that are annoying me with it besides the difficult to adjust readability: my image formatting is completely ignored. Oh… and apparently line breaks are rather scrunched.

Edit: Theme switched back…

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything on this thing. My college semester has been packed, to say the least.

Anyway… today’s topic is about Sonic the Hedgehog. Oh how I wish this could be a positive topic… but it’s not. To be blunt, Sonic has outright sucked lately. I think the only slightly decent games lately have been the Sonic Advance series and then Sonic Rush (both which were not made by Sonic Team.) There are two specific reasons that Sonic sucks so much right now (I’m not including Shadow the Hedgehog…): Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 and Sonic Genesis.

Whoa! It’s not about gaming or anime!

Recently, I got really fed up with some of the noise that goes on at the dorms while I’m either trying to study or listen to my music. As a result, I decided to buy some larger headphones for the sole purpose of drowning this stuff out. While I was at it, I decided to try a really cheap pair of the so called “noise cancellation” type of headphones that I’ve read about briefly at different places. Here is what I think of them after testing them out for a weekend.

I registered for Camp Hyrule again. Hopefully I’ll actually be able to do something this time around, since I don’t move into my dorm until near the end of next week. Last year, I registered for Camp Hyrule only to end up missing all of it due to preparation for my first semester of college. I have the routine down, so it won’t be as difficult this time around. I’m in cabin #9, not that anyone reading my blog knows what Camp Hyrule is.

I’ll keep this pretty short… as I’m getting pretty tired of spending all of my time on anime and manga related rants (though I have a post for the FMA movie lined up). I have some other trivial subjects I would like to discuss. (more…)

I’m asking for a world of hurt by going into anime fan fiction… as people like to use a lot more wishful thinking that desecrates the basis of the anime it is based from. With something like Sonic the Hedgehog, which has has very little plot to it, it’s quite easy to get away with winging it since you can be fairly creative due to the lack of information.

Card Captor Sakura… no. Winging it will not work. It has a solid plot. I think a lot of people realize that they can’t wing it with the normal universe, so they instead put Sakura and Syaoran in the roles of a princess and prince or something. Sure, you can wing it like that… but it almost defeats the purpose of the fan fiction unless you make some sort of connection to the source material other than a character or two.

But that’s beyond the point. What I’d like to focus on is what I consider to be the most random fan relationship ever. I do mean random… as I have no idea where it came from. As those who can read post titles can tell, I am referring to Eriol and Tomoyo.

After watching all of Card Captor Sakura the other day, I stumbled upon the fact that another anime created by the same people contained some of the same characters, but they were obviously in a different universe. The concept isn’t anything new to me, since Tenchi Muyo! and Pretty Girl Sammy did the same thing first. However, curiosity kills the cat… and I was bored. Thus, I decided to start watching Tsubasa Chronicle (or is it Chronicles?).
